Scalp Acne Treatment

By: shawn parker Home | Health-and-Fitness | Beauty

Scalp Acne is not much different than the acne that you typically see on your face. It is however a little tougher to treat because of the hair that gets in the way. On a positive note, it is much easier to hide but it can be very uncomfortable. Everyone has had a pimple on their head at one time or another. Depending on where it's located, most of the time we just leave it alone and let it take its course. While the acne may be tender and sore they usually disappear with a week or so.

Your best bet it to avoid oily products which are often found in styling products. The oil in some of these products do nothing but irritate your skin which leads to Scalp Acne. These products can also contain other harmful ingredients that may make you look attractive; however they could be the leading cause of your Scalp Acne. If you are constantly battling acne on your scalp, quit using the styling products first. If doing so doesn't clear up your condition you may have to change shampoos. A really good alternative that packs a gentle mean punch is baby shampoo. It's very easy on the skin but does a fantastic job eliminating dirt, bacteria, and excess oils.

You can treat Scalp Acne similar to the way you would treat it on your face. One thing to keep in mind is you don't want to use benzoyl peroxide because it tends to bleach most people's hair white. There has been a lot of talk recently about using dandruff shampoo to fight off acne of the scalp so you may want to consider that as an option as well. There are certain ingredients in dandruff shampoo such as zinc, ketoconazole, and ciclopirox which aid in curing scalp folliculitis.

Scalp folliculitis is a disorder to the hair follicles which usually leads to widespread itchy breakouts that seem to rest along the hairline. Most studies show that this is caused by a combination of bacteria and yeasts. If you think that you may have scalp folliculitis it's important for you to see your doctor as soon as possible so he can provide you a prescription.
