Set Sail With A Nautical Themed Birthday Party

The summer is winding down, and the time that one can spend outdoors will soon begin to shrink. Heading to the beach or going out on the water for a day of sun and relaxation can be one of the most appealing aspects of summer, and one of the most sorely missed once it's autumn. So, if you have a friend or family member with a birthday coming up, why not celebrate it with a nautical-themed birthday party?

For starters, you'll want to send out enticing invitations. One option at your disposal would be to purchase announcements that feature pictures of things you would see on a boat, such as a life preserver or anchor. Another option would be to use some images of sea creatures, such as lobsters or clams.

After you've invited your guests, you should think about how you plan on decorating your shindig. Since the party is first and foremost a birthday bash, you should include some items that will honor the birthday boy or girl. Consider hanging a themed banner wishing them a happy birthday, a small detail which is bound to make them feel loved as they turn a year older. Also, try hanging cruise ship danglers from the ceiling.

Of course, you'll want to include some critters that are commonly seen on the coast as well. Placing some plastic crabs and lobsters around your get-together can be an understated accent to your decorating scheme. If you want to really add an exclamation point to your soiree, think about making use of a sunset scene setter. A beautiful recreation of a beachside sunset can be the perfect way to bring the shore into your home.

Decorations and invitations are a great start, but you will also need spectacular supplies for your celebration. Try purchasing paper plates, napkins and cups that reflect the party theme. A great idea would be to pick out ones that are adorned with an exciting underwater scene, as your guests are sure to love using paper goods that contain images of their favorite marine animals. If you're looking to take a more subdued route, you can use simple light blue plates to mimic the pristine color of the ocean.

Since your party has a nautical theme, you should provide your guests with some fun and clever items for them to wear. A captain's hat is a great start, and a red lobster hat will be a riot. As a final touch, why not include some balloons that are shaped like fish and other ocean animals?

Summer parties are a great experience. There are few things better than hanging out with some of your favorite people in beautiful weather and celebrating someone's birthday. Combining the relaxing late summer atmosphere with hints of the shore could be a wonderful way to bid this season adieu.
