As the New Year approaches or the seasons begin to change many people long for a change of their own. "Out with the old and in with the new" they say! One way people try to affect change for themselves is to shop for new clothes. The shopping experience alone makes many people feel betterâ€unless you are a plus size woman. Many plus size women feel very self conscious and insecure, especially when shopping in a store for plus size intimate apparel or plus size exotic lingerie. It's hard enough trying to shop in stores for work and casual clothing, never mind plus size intimate apparel. Retailers want to capitalize on the growing waistlines of Americans†but not in their stores. Plus size women have been made to feel that they don't belong. According to Suzanne D'Amato in her Washington Post article (5/31/05), several well known retailers including Gap, J. Crew, Delia's and American Eagle sell larger sizes online rather than in their stores. D'Amato goes on to say that" industry research suggests that some plus-size women prefer to shop in private, often based on their negative experiences in stores". She quotes Marshal Cohen, chief industry analyst at NPD group as saying; "Who are the people who are more willing to shop online than not? Plus-size women. They're so used to being shunned and sent out to the hinterlands that they expect this to be the situation". Sadly, many plus size women are resigned to this type of treatment and have even come to expect it. With the rise in popularity of online shopping over the last decade, women looking for plus size lingerie in particular, need not put up with this type of insult any longer. They now have viable options. In the privacy of their own homes, women can window shop and purchase plus size intimate apparel with the click of a mouse knowing that their business is appreciated , the merchandise is high quality, and their purchases are secure with a fair return policy in effect.
