If you have a comic book collection that is quiet large and you have invested a lot of money into it then you really should think about getting insurance, especially if any of your comics happen to be rare, top of the line Silver or Golden Age hard to find vintage comics. But, if you own hundreds or thousands of comics that are just worth one to three dollars each, then it may not really be practical or very cost effective to have them insured. You can get insurance that will cover your great comic book collection from damage, loss or theft. In a worst case, how much an insurance company will pay is usually limited to only 10% of all the cover or $10,000. If your collection is extensive, you could have many comics and could easily be worth this amount of money. It's really a good idea for you to get insurance on your collection. A lot of insurance companies are going to want an inventory or your entire collection, and with that an estimate of what the comics are worth. You should make a list of all the comics you have, their condition and the value of each one and keep this on hand, this will make getting insurance a lot easier. If you have homeowners insurance, then your collection is covered automatically. Yet, to verify any or your claims, you will have to have a record of all the comics in your collection. I know this can be hard to keep up to date because collectors are continuously buying and selling comics. For these very reasons, if you have a large comic book collection or low value comic books are going to be more of a problem to get insurance on then they are really worth. But, if you have a lot of comic books that are worth a hundred dollars or more, having insurance against damage or theft could really ease your mind. An alternative to your insurance problem for your expensive comics is to simply rent a safety box at the bank. You can easily store ten to fifty comics or even more depending on what size box you get and then you will be assured that your irreplaceable comics are very well protected.
