Should You Use Honey For Aging Skin?

By: marianne E. Arnesson Home |

Gradually, through the aging process our skin sets off on a downward spiral and eventually the loss of vitality and suppleness in our skin becomes more apparent.Using honey for aging skin holds out some hope for those who hope to hold out in the battle against aging.

What is it about honey for aging skin that makes it such a beauty miracle treatment? Is it possible to get the same benefits without using this nectar of the bees? The answer is yes, when you understand what it does, and how to find the same benefits from other ingredients.

The first thing we need to understand is that honey is a wonderful antioxidant. This helps to fight free radicals in the body. Free radicals are partly responsible for causing wrinkles and sagging in the skin. They have also been linked to various diseases and illnesses as well as oxidization of the skin.

Just as iron begins to rust when exposed to oxygen, free radicals cause our skin to oxidize. Antioxidants such as honey and other ingredients help to fight these free radicals.

Honey also does wonders in helping to replenish our bodies levels of collagen and elastin. These are responsible for our skins flexibility, firmness, thickness, and structure. As we age, our body loses it's ability to replenish these proteins properly.

Keeping the production of collagen and elastin at the requisite levels is essential for firm, supple skin and honey is excellent for this. Honey, however,is not the only answer tothis problem of creating collagen and elastin.

Although this has been used for centuries as a beauty aide, we are lucky enough to live in a day and age where science is able to understand the exact processes that our body goes through as well as the necessary proteins, hormone, and vitamins and nutrient levels the body needs. Our understanding of aging and the physical body has grown by leaps and bounds over the last twenty years.

This is where it has become a blessing to live in the modern day and age. By looking at time tested methods for health and beauty, we can begin to understand what these age old methods do to our body in order to maintain a youthful appearance.

It is now possible to enjoy all the wonderful advantages of honey for aging skin without using honey at all. Imagine all the rewards and none of the mess that our ancestors would have had to endure.
