Simple Marketing Building Blocks For Business Development Plans

By: BGC Home |

Whether you are just beginning with your new business development plans or whether you are attempting to grow a business that has already been in place for some time, it is easy to squander your effort with expensive inefficient advertising. Frequently, managers of a business interest will decide the best way to bring in new customers is to run a large ad in a local newspaper or a television commercial during an expensive time slot. Although these will probably be viewed, they most likely will not deliver lasting influence because there is frequently no repetition. Due to the lack of influence the responsible manager concludes the advertisement does not work and simply stops further advertising. All advertising requires repetition of the message in order to accomplish the desired results of the promotion. This has constantly been correct, and takes on additional importance with the amount of promotion messages that today's shoppers are exposed to.

If you're ready to start marketing your business, use with the basic building blocks of effective marketing discussed here in your business development plans to form your foundation and grow from there.

Network " a lot of networking functions can be located around most any city or town. Since you may find you are short on time when your business is open, you may need to concentrate on the functions that run after your business hours. In a lot of cases, these networking functions are offered at no cost, consequently your major expenditure is your time. Participation in these networking functions gives one considerable opportunity to converse with potential prospects without the distractions one has to face during regular business hours. All that is required to be effective is a small number of business cards, a charming smile and a friendly attitude.

Business cards " Needless to say, are required for sales calls and during your networking activities. Don't forget there are many other ways you can use your business cards. Give your cards out to everyone you come in contact with and give more than one out at a time. Business cards are a simple and affordable building block to create exposure and promotion for your business interest. Direct mail " You don't need to mail to a list of 50,000 for direct mail to be effective, you just need to be consistent. You can have 1,000 postcards printed, affix postage and labels yourself, and mail out 50 or 100 to the same targeted list each week. This delivers a repeated advertisement until it becomes well known to the recipients. As you begin to generate revenue from this, you can increase the size of your mailing list. You have just created a direct mail marketing campaign with carefully controlled costs which will not increase until you see a return from the advertisement investment.

Promotion website " In this day and age do not make the mistake of not having a promotion website. An internet website offers one of the lowest cost ways to promote what your business offers. These days, people use the internet for comparing companies and without a web site, you're out of the running. All that is needed is an easy to understand message about who your business is, what you offer, and why customers do business with you. There is room to add more detail in a website vs the room you have on a business card and postcard, but remember your viewer's time is precious and they need to find what they came to look for quickly. So like with postcards and business cards, a website must first offer a consistent and easy to understand message and not let fancy bells and whistles get in the way. If your website is easy to find and it is easy to understand what you offer, you are in the running to win.

By using these four basic building blocks in your business development plans for growing your business you create a strong foundation for future growth. Maximize what these blocks offer before you add additional expensive advertising methods like search engine optimization, television and radio advertising, or billboards. The idea is to create a foundation, and as you achieve results, increase more to your marketing campaign.
