Sleep Apnea And Snoring: Natural Solutions

By: Bev Francis Home | Health-and-Fitness

Sleep Apnea and Snoring: Natural Solutions.

There are various remedies for sleep apnea and snoring that do not require medical intervention.
Some commonsense ideas are:
Firstly, eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly is very important as they both encourage healthy sleeping patterns.
Lose weight.
Minimize your use of alcohol, antihistamines, or tranquilizers.
Make sure you get treatment for allergies and colds or sinus problems.
Develop regular sleep habits, and especially ensure you get enough sleep at night.
Gargle with salt water so as to shrink your tonsils.
Try sleeping on your side or sitting up rather than sleeping on your back.
Don't smoke or expose yourself to other irritants (such as dust or perfumes).
Use an air humidifier by your bedside.
Place bricks under the head of your bed to raise it.
Try eliminating mucus-producing foods (such as dairy and bananas) for two weeks. Then begin eating them again and see if you notice any difference.
Reduce caffeine intake: Throw out the first cup of tea from a tea bag and use the second, which will have less caffeine. For the times when you enjoy a hot drink most, drink decaffeinated coffee and tea. Don't forget to count the caffeine in soft drinks, headache and other medications, chocolates, chocolate desserts, and chocolate-flavoured liqueurs.
Contoured memory foam pillows are another natural cure for sleep apnea. These pillows provide support through the night while holding the patient's head in a position that discourages snoring. By keeping the airway in a straight line, the patient reduces the risk of airway collapse.
Another natural cure for sleep apnea is exercises that help the patient to stop snoring. Learning to relax the jaw may solve a snoring problem. The patient lightly clenches his jaw, then opens and closes his mouth slowly 20 times in a row. After about ten repetitions, the patient will start to feel the muscle workout in the jaw. Strengthening the jaw muscles is thought to reduce snoring, and singing or didgeridoo lessons will strengthen your throat strange as it may sound!
Natural and holistic approaches are also excellent treatment methods to provide relief for sleep apnea and snoring.
More and more people are exploring natural remedies and declining the use of chemical medicines. Treatments such as herbal and homeopathic remedies help to improve symptoms but also improve the individual’s overall physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Certain herbs such as Avena sativa, Scuttelaria laterifolia and Passiflora incarnata can safely be taken to treat chronic sleep problems and maintain good sleeping habits.
In addition, a combination of herbs and sleep-facilitating nutrients such as Hypericum perforatuma, Schizandra chinesis, Calcium lactate, Magnesium lactate and Vitamin B6 treats the underlying causes of sleep problems, balances serotonin levels naturally and induces a regular, satisfying sleep.
Dr. Eve Campanelli of Beverly Hills found that the flower remedy vervain had a calming influence on her patients and helped them solve their sleeping problems.
These remedies should be taken under the advice of a certified homeopath or after thorough research only.
