By: Raghida Hallal Home | Health-and-Fitness

When you are asleep you often come across a disorder that we often refer to as Sleep Apnea. This is a disorder that often gets un-noticed by the sufferers and the doctors as well as there is no test to detect it. It is often noticed by the other person who lies close to you when you are asleep.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or have shallow breaths when you are asleep. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They often occur five to thirty times or more in an hour. When this happens the episodes are called apnea or without breath. The seriousness of the disorder lies for how long these episodes occur to you.

There are two kinds of Sleep Apnea that may occur to your body. One is central Sleep Apnea which is caused by lack of effort by your body and the other is obstructive Sleep Apnea when there is something chocking your air passage. The disorder may occur many times while you are sleeping leading to serious complications. So when you have been diagnosed for this order you must take it seriously and should go for an immediate treatment of the disease. Your brain stops functioning normally as it should do while you are asleep.

Sleep Apnea can be marked by a number of symptoms

  1. Hypersomnia- feeling tired during days
  2. Snoring- making roaring sounds while sleeping
  3. Morning headaches
  4. Breathing cessation- sudden wake up while sleeping
  5. Dry mouth
  6. Insomnia- a condition when you can not fall asleep or stay asleep.

Treatment of Sleep Apnea is must and should be cured immediately after being noticed. One major cause of Sleep Apnea is over weight. So you should try to loose weight that may help you with proper breathing and curing this disorder.

Start sleeping on either side of your body. Sleeping on the back constitutes more than half of the cases. If you are suffering from sleeping apnea you need to sleep on the either side of your body. This though seems easy but has worked very well for a lot of people.

Try to prevent your nasal congestion. Keeping your nasals clean could be the best option for that. If you have nasal congestion the air you breathe is congested in the esophagus. Using nasal strips can be another useful option that can help you open way for air while sleeping and can help you control nasal congestion.

If you are suffering from Sleep Apnea you need to cure it. This disorder often remains undiagnosed and can cause serious troubles after wards. Os its better you notice it at proper time and try to cure it.
