There are number of different things, which may cause a person to snore when they are sleeping. But the problem is that if the problem is not dealt with correctly it could lead to them having other health issues to deal with as well. One such problem that can further exacerbate their condition is sleep apnea. But although snoring can be a problem for the sufferer, it is important to remember that it is also a problem for those who are close to them as well. A person who snores makes a very loud harsh or hoarse breathing sound when they inhale and exhale as they sleep. This is because as they breathe in or out the air causes the tissue in their upper airway (in the nose and throat) to vibrate and so this is when the snoring sound occurs. Unfortunately, because this is a completely involuntary action many people when they sleep do not even realize that they are snoring. Generally, it is the palate, along with the uvula and tonsils, which are to be found in a person's upper airway, are the items that are causing the snoring as they obstruct it. There are a number of different causes as to why a person will snore and below we take a look at what some of these are. 1. The muscles, which are found in the person's throat and tongue, are not as strong as they should be. Because of this, the tongue is more likely to fall backwards into the throat and so obstructing it, which makes it more difficult for the person to breathe. 2. They may find that they have too much throat tissue usually caused by them being overweight. Again, this causes their airway to become obstructed and so allow the free movement of air through their airway. 3. For some their snoring is being caused because their palate is long and soft and it may because the uvula tissue in their throat is too soft. Or their snoring may be caused by both of these problems and again it causes a restriction to the back of their throat. 4. Another reason for why certain people may snore as they sleep at night is because their nasal passages are obstructed. In many cases this will be because there is a build up of mucus in them and so will restrict the flow of air through them as a person breathes when they sleep at night. If you are someone whose snoring is being caused by one of the above mentioned there are devices and remedies that one can now use to help solve the problem. Some people have found that applying a nasal strip prior to going to bed is effective. Whilst others have found that using, a stop snoring spray or a device for placing in the mouth is effective for them. But for those whose condition may become severe then they may find that the only alternative is to undergo surgery such as Somnoplasty to really find a cure to their snoring problems.
