Snowmobiling In Ontario Canada: How To Choose The Right Location

By: Hillary Lane Home |

Throughout Ontario there are countless areas that cater to the snowmobile enthusiast. Snowmobiling is huge. For this reason, the economic impact of snowmobiling in Canada is about six billon dollars a year. A wide variety of businesses, in communities both large and small, rely on the dollars snowmobilers bring to their area every year to survive. It is a tremendously important revenue producer, particularly for the hospitality and tourism industries. There are literally thousands of miles of groomed trails and dozens of organized clubs and associations for the snowmobile enthusiast to choose from. With all of these options, how do you choose the right location?

When choosing a snowmobile trail or location, it is imperative to choose a place that has lots of snow. Over the last few years, Southern Ontario has suffered from an ever-shrinking snowmobile season. Winters are becoming milder and the season is becoming shorter. However, there are key areas throughout Ontario, in particular the Almaquin Highlands that are blessed with an abundance of snow. One key indicator as to the snowfall amounts is to look at the last few winters and choose a location that was knee-deep in snow when other areas had already pulled-in their groomers.

With large amounts of snow, it is important to make sure the location you choose to snowmobile in has groomed trails. This is important to make for a safe snowmobiling adventure that you can easily navigate through and enjoy the scenery. Although every location is different, some offer a nice balance of with scenic tree-lined trails, frozen lakes and breath-taking views of snow-clad hills and valleys.

Superior snowmobiling conditions are ideal. One can learn more about some of the best rated places to snowmobile in Supertrax Magazine. However, if you are looking for a less well-known snowmobiling destination, it is important to choose a location that has a snowmobiling trail system that boasts of a mixed riding experience. This makes the experience more varied and exciting.

Organized clubs and associations can also be appealing to the snowmobiling enthusiast because it enables you to form relationships with people with similar interests and helps you stay connected with all the activities.

Another important thing to consider when choosing a snowmobiling trail is whether there are parts and gas available close-by. Although we all hope to have a winter snowmobiling adventure that is free of problems, having parts available for purchase allows you to be on your way and out in the snow after the repair has been made. Gas is also important because it allows a full day of uninterrupted snowmobiling. Snowmobile owners have a substantial investment in their machines and related equipment, and having a location that helps you keep your snowmobile in top condition is imperative.

The final thing to consider when choosing a snowmobile location is the accommodations available. The last thing you want to do after a day of fun is spending a long trip in the car back to a resort or lodge. Proximity is everything. A full-service resort is often ideal that can provide guests with luxurious accommodations and gourmet dining at a reasonable price. The accommodations may also offer direct access to the trails and secured sled parking, sled rentals, and snow passes.

Choosing the right snowmobiling trail and location can be difficult with so many options, but by following the advice above, you will be well on your way to experiencing a snowmobile paradise.
