Solar School Education: Before, During And After

By: Rose Eric Home | Reference-and-Education

With the rising awareness of the need for renewable energy sources particularly solar energy, more and more jobs and businesses will be created in the next few years. In fact, government and private initiatives in this area are projected to generate as many as 37 million jobs until 2030, of which the solar sector will form a significant subset! Thus, a solar school education opens many doors of opportunities for both business and employment purposes.

Before Entry

Before enrolling in solar training courses, certain things must be clarified. First, entry requirements like educational attainments, prior certifications, professional state licenses and work experience vary according to the courses under consideration. Thus, applicants must verify with the school administration on this all-important matter.

Most entry-level solar power installer training courses require minimum qualifications that can include at least a high school diploma with adequate knowledge in basic algebra, geometry and trigonometry as well as electrical theory. However, for other types of trainings, higher qualifications like a professional license (i.e., plumber, electrician, solar contractor, engineers, etc) and certain number of years experience will be necessary before entry into the solar school of your choice.

As to personal qualifications, applicants must possess a keen sense of environmentalism since it is the driving force behind solar education. The ability to work with many people of various expertises as well as a strong sense of reliability and responsibility are also highly desired.

During Training

Basically, solar power installer training covers fundamental knowledge of the design, installation, evaluation and maintenance of solar energy systems. Again, the training modules depend on the type of education being provided (i.e., solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, solar heating, solar electricity) and the type of professionals availing of it (i.e., designers, installers, engineers, troubleshooters).

To strengthen said fundamental and theoretical knowledge in a solar school, students are also provided with site evaluation and actual operation exercises. Of course, said practical applications are in accordance with both theory learned in the classrooms and concepts enforced by governmental regulations.

After Training

Usually, getting an education in solar and a certification from the school is provided for the trainee who successfully finishes the course. Expect final examinations and even actual projects as part of the requirements for graduation.

In some instances, the school certification can provide for many job opportunities especially when the educational establishment is recognized by the government, by the utility companies, and by the green energy service companies. However, checking with local government authorities for professional licensing purposes is still best since states do have different laws on the matter of green professionals and practitioners.

Even after securing the necessary solar school education and professional licenses, keep in mind that even in an industry experiencing rapid growth amidst the worldwide economic crisis, competition for jobs is still prevalent. As such, you must do all things necessary to flourish in the solar industry, from expanding your network of contacts to deepening your knowledge of the technologies. The benefits are good, too median salaries starting at more than $30,000 and as high as $85,000, excluding other perks.

In conclusion, having an education in solar will be your ticket to a better life, a better environment and a better world. Indeed, you can make a difference in the world while making good money! How is that for becoming the next big thing in the jobs market?
