Proper indexing of your web site is a key condition for success of your online business. Before search engines start listing your site in search results, your site must be indexed. In other words, search engines must know about existence of your web site or newly added pages. Site Indexing happens either as a result of direct submission of your site to a search engine, or as a result of a visiting by search engine robot. It is not a bad idea to submit your site to search engines, however, a random visit of a robot from particular search engine can serve your site even better. Robot, coming to your site from a link of another web site will more likely rate your site higher in the hierarchy of a given search engine. No matter what kind of algorithm is used, if you site has an in-link, it means that your site is useful. The timing needed to get your site indexed may vary from several days to several months. Of course, it depends on particular search engines and their indexing algorithms. Google is the fastest indexing search engine on modern Internet. It is a proven fact that your site will be indexed faster, if you would have several in-links to your site coming from a web site of high ranking. Indexing of newly added pages happens faster, if the site having a frequent updates. In such case engines may consider such fast growing/updating sites up-to-date and useful for users, and hence, assign them some priority on indexing. Below are few tips, which may help you to get your site indexed faster: - Site navigation should not take more than 3 clicks from index page to any other; - Map your site, with the links to every page. Place a link to the map page on your main page; - Dont use too big pages, not more than 100 " 200 kB, robots rarely go further than such volume; - Try to use human-friendly URLs in your links, too parametrically complicated links make the indexing harder; - Never forget about robots.txt file (check your root directory), use it when you need to pass specific indexing instructions. The progress in indexing of your web site can be checked in logs of your site host or by direct inquiry to search engines. Dont be surprised by fluctuations in number of indexed pages in your site: this can happen for several reasons: server or referrers could be down, or, perhaps, search engine changed its algorithm. Have a nice indexing!
