Son Vida Golf Course Mallorca

By: Zengolfer Home | Recreation-and-Sports | Golf

Son Vida designed by Fred Hawtree is the oldest golf course in Majorca and has become the most impressive golf course on the island now. It is situated about 10 kilometers from Palma, and is close to S'Esglaieta. It opened for play in the late fifties, and plays to the par of 71. It is a very interesting layout which offers the golfers a wide-ranging and challenging test of golf with the extraordinary panorama of Sierra de Tramontana and the bay. There are innumerable pine, almond, palm and pine trees all along the course, and it was renovated in 2001.

Son Vida looks a little stretched from the tee but with the open fairways, it makes very good use of the undulating landscape. The greens are generally big and also a little lofted which require precise shots and excellent management of the course.

There are several doglegs which give you a chance to take risks and the main hazards here are the bunkers on both sides of the green. It has greens which are rounded, flat but not very big. Even with hotels and constructions around the golf course at Son Vida Golf upholds a very natural look and it has been maintained to the highest level. It is a wonderful course for all golf enthusiasts. With its renovation the greens and the fairways of final last five holes have been reshaped under the direction of the architect of the course Kurt Rossknecht. The length of the course was also increased by about 80 meters.

The Arabella Sheraton is situated in the idle of the palm-dotted fairways of the prestigious Son Vida golf course. It welcomes you with the blue skies and the Mediterranean sunshine. Son Vida, Son Muntaner and Son Quint are the three golf courses here with three lavish hotels, The Castillo Hotel Son Vida, St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort, and the ArabellaSheraton Golf Hotel Son Vida. All of them offer excellent service and you can’t find a better golf destination than here. This fashionable Mediterranean style resort is good for families as well as couples and has Michelin a star restaurant and top class golf courses and other leisure facilities.

It is true that there are very few locations on the planet which are naturally the best vacation destinations, and Mallorca, off the Spanish coast is one of them. It is a place to relax and enjoy life to it the maximum. There are many excellent golf courses here which add value to the place and they are good for golfers of all levels and handicaps. Palma is a very opportune base for beginning your golfing trip in Mallorca, which is also sometimes called Majorca.
