Real Madrid maintains their fight for the title of the Spanish League after beating Real Zaragoza in an anguishing match, 2-1 this past Saturday. Real Zaragoza, which played the second half with ten players due to the expulsion of the Italian midfielder, Matteo Contini, were close to making a draw. However, a great goal from Kaka at minute 82 gave the Meringues the victory and moved them closer to Barcelona in the top spot by one point. Barcelona also took a victory after beating Xerez 3-1, leading with 87 points. With this victory, Real Madrid is focusing on their next match against Osasuna, which will be held on May 2nd. During their last match on January 3rd, neither of the two could obtain the victory; the game ended 0-0. Now, this game will be key for both squads; the Whites would be closer to surpassing Bara to obtain the La Liga title, which they haven’t won in two seasons. On the other hand, Osasuna, which tied their last game against Athletic Bilbao, are trying to add a triumph and surpass Espanyol in the 11th place of the standings. If Osasuna end in 11th or 10th place this season, it will be the best position they have achieve in four seasons. In the match against Zaragoza, Real Madrid dominated the game from the first minute, coming close to scoring at minute 2 when Cristiano Ronaldo missed a clear option after goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez cleared the shot from the Portuguese. Minutes later, the Whites kept control of the ball while Real Zaragoza was trying to close the spaces and the opportunities for the Meringues in their area. This worked for Zaragoza, but they had to quit their offensive attack to take care of their defensive lines to prevent the Meringues’ attempts. This meant that Manuel Pellegrini’s team had more difficulties creating chances to score until minute 27, when it enjoyed a double opportunity with an accurate attempt from Raul Gonzalez, which hit the post, and then the subsequent shot from Ronaldo, which Czech Jiri Jarosik saved as the ball approached the net. Close to the end of the first half, Real Madrid seemed to lack ideas and, though they tried to score, the Whites were unable to disturb the local team. Just entering the second half, Raul Gonzalez collected a pass from Ronaldo to finish the play and set up the first goal of the match. Only two minutes after, Matteo Contini saw the red card and Zaragoza was left with 10 players. But far from collapse due to the expulsion, the Zaragoza player Adrian Colunga faced Iker Casillas and got the equalizer at minute 61. Despite this goal, the Whites kept attacking but it was not until minute 82 when Kaka, who came back from injury, picked up a deep pass from Ronaldo and put the final 2-1 for Real Madrid. At the end of this match, Kak stated his satisfaction with scoring for Real again in a tough match after having been injured for some time. He hopes his team will keep fighting for theiruntil the end. "It's a tremendous joy to score; I've been waiting for a game like this for a long time. I think I've given a clear answer on the field to all of those who have criticized me," said Kak.
