Splash Country Adds Some Down-home Fun For 2010

By: J. Watson Home | Travel-and-Leisure | Vacation

Dollywood, Tennessee's favorite family attraction, is getting back to its roots with the latest addition to the popular Splash Country water park. Slick Rock Racer is a fast and furious racing slide that promises to delight riders of all ages. With enough lanes for the whole family to race, this fantastic new adventure will have everyone wanting to get in on the action.

Slick Rock Racer Reminds Dolly of Home

â€Me and my brothers and sisters used to play in the creeks around home in the Smoky Mountains, and more times than not, we’d land on a mossy covered rock that sent us for a ride like you wouldn’t believe,†Dolly Parton said. â€That’s the same kind of unexpected thrills and adventure that I had in mind when I chose Slick Rock Racer for families to enjoy together at Dollywood’s Splash Country.â€

This four-lane racing slide features a 300-foot run over breathtaking dips and bumps that give a burst of speed to catapult you to the finish line. You'll want to tackle this challenge head-on, and that's just what Splash Country had in mind when they designed the ride for belly-down mat sliding. You'll plunge head first along a water-drenched channel built for speed, competing against three other sliders in a soaking-wet race to the finish.

Slick Rock Racer will certainly become a favorite destination at Splash Country. Because the slide accommodates up to 600 riders an hour, you won't waste your fun time standing in an endless line.

Wet and Wild Family Fun

Opened in 2000, Splash Country is a 35-acre water park located adjacent to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. It offers more than 20 water rides ranging from quiet reflection on a cool mountain stream to screaming thrills. The Downbound Float Trip carries riders along a 1,500-foot river through the beautiful scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains. The Cascades is an 8,000 square-foot lagoon with more than 25 activities, including a geyser, water slides, a waterfall, and ample deck space where mom and dad can relax while the kids play. For thrill-seekers, SwiftWater Run lives up to its name with an exciting corkscrew tunnel and a super-fast run down a watery chute.

While many of the rides have no minimum height requirement (meaning everyone can enjoy), Splash Country designed Little Creek Falls especially for the smallest water lovers. Kids get their very own child-sized swimming pool, slides built with them in mind, and an activity center guaranteed to entertain for hours. Parents get to relax, knowing their children are safe and enjoying their vacation, too.

If you're looking for a spot to take the family for some hot summer fun, Splash Country is hard to beat. Water and sun combine with the spectacular backdrop of the Great Smoky Mountains to make a screaming good time and lasting memories for your entire family, whether you make a day of it, or an entire vacation.
