Sports Facilities Construction Requires Professional Help

By: Stanley DeGeorgio Home | Recreation-and-Sports

Many different sports can be played on natural grass pitches or field, even artificial surfaces can be designed to allow two or three kinds of sports to be played on them. However, the quality of synthetic sports surfaces required by each sports varies from the other. Sports pitches for football usually comprise a long pile carpet filled with sand and rubber granules, a hockey sports pitch requires a shorter pile carpet dressed with sand only. These are some of the reasons why local, national, and international sports governing bodies opt special technical expertise for the construction of sports facilities and installation of equipment related to different sports.

A reputed and renowned sports facilities construction company starts its task by inspecting the ground where the sports pitch is to be constructed. After the initial inspection is over, it starts its process of excavating the ground. Then comes the task of laying the water-permeable underlayer. After water-permeable underlayer is laid, a layer of artificial turf is laid over it. This layer of artificial turf is in-filled with sand and/or rubber to make it slip resistant, shock resistant, and extremely durable. The drainage aspect is also kept in mind.

While constructing the synthetic athletics surfaces, sports construction facilities companies use an impermeable double compound known as polyurethane. Polyurethane is then blended with fibrous rubber granules in a special machine. The mixture is then installed at full depth using special equipment. Athletics tracks prepared in this manner allow better drainage, making the surface uniform and durable. Also, such athletics tracks are slip resistant and therefore minimise the chances of fall.

The construction of artificial sports surfaces can also be varied so as to alter the playing characteristics of the pitch depending upon the requirements of the sports to be played on them. This is why astroturf or synthetic grass is available in a range of pile lengths. A specialist sports facilities construction company will have the know-how to decide upon the best sports surface for the purpose based on site conditions, uses of the sports facility and budgetary concerns. All the installation is undertaken conforming to the I.A.A.F guidelines.

In addition to outdoor sports, a sports facilities construction company also specialises in sports hall flooring that are meant for indoor sports. Indoor floors can be made extremely durable, depending on the choice of surface finish. Specialist sports facilities construction companies may also provide other important services such as installing fences, sports equipment and floodlighting, electronic scoreboards, and air supported structures. Many leading companies also offer sports surface maintenance.
