By: Rob Parker Home | Arts-and-Entertainment

If you are looking for some wholesome family fun, or if you are just planning on a quiet getaway, St.Catharines is the place to be. Located in the heart of Niagara, St.Catharines marks the end of the famous Underground Railroad, was the home of the visionary who first dreamt of the Welland Canal and is a community filled with more then 800 heritage designated buildings and homes, making it one of Ontario's richest heritage communities. This also means that there's plenty to see and explore in and around the area.

St.Catharines is the host to many popular festivals and events that happen all year around like the Niagara Wine Festival, the Spring Salmon Derby and the Niagara Folk Arts Festival. In the summer you can go see the week-long Royal Canadian Henley Regatta which is the largest of its kind in the western world, attracting rowers from all over the globe. Shopping in St.Catharines offers the best national and international retailers, from designer shops and boutiques, to antiques and unique one-of-a-kind shops, original local merchandise can be found here.

You can also find many entertainment places around St.Catharines, from professional and amateur theater to fine art and contemporary art galleries. The city also provides many Canadian-performing artists (Jazz, Motown and contemporary rock bands) a place to perform at the many festivals and events. In July, St.Catharines has one of the hottest events in the music world; S.C.E.N.E takes over multiple downtown venues and welcomes all ages with one admission price and over 100 bands.

But it's not only the festivals that should attract you to St.Catharines, there are also many golf courses, hiking trails and outdoors recreational opportunities available to everyone. So whether you are looking for family fun, romantic getaways, golf and recreation, gardens and green spaces, arts and culture, history and heritage, waterfronts and waterways or wine and cuisine there is something for everyone year-round at St.Catharines!
