Stop Smoking Maybe?

By: Michele Ross Home | Health-and-Fitness

Perhaps one of the hardest things in the world to do is to voluntarily Stop Smoking. You can cure a lot of diseases by taking the appropriate medications. You can lose weight by eating less and exercising but then you generally are not addicted to eating. You may be eating too much because you are bored or something but you are not addicted to eating per se. It is difficult to lose weight and even harder to keep that lost weight off but to Stop Smoking is much more difficult.

When you drink you may also be addicted to alcohol but so far no one has outlawed alcohol and you can still go into a bar and order something to drink. Well there are some countries that have banned alcohol but it is still available in those countries. There is no particular social stigma attached to drinking. There is a social stigma attached to smoking. Perhaps it is because when you smoke you are impacting other people with your smell and second hand smoke. This is especially true since it has been proven that second hand smoke can kill others than just you. It is difficult for a non smoker to enter a bar that is filled with cigarette smoke without coughing and hacking or at least pretending to do that and of course waving their hand in front of their fact to disperse the smoke. And face it, there are many smoking bans enacted in many cities, states and countries around the world.

So if you decide to Stop Smoking you really must have made this decision within your own mind and brain. If you are wavering it is very difficult to stop. You must be ready to stop. You may do this by using a smoking substitute such as an electronic cigarette or using a nicotine patch or nicotine gum. But to really stop you must really stop, period, for the rest of your life.

It helps to have the support of family and friends. It doesn’t help if your spouse or significant other still smokes. When you quit smoking you will probably long for a cigarette every time you smell cigarette smoke or cigar smoke or pipe smoke. For some reason a cigarette really smells good at certain times of the day like with a cup of coffee or with a drink. If you crave one at these times note it and try a substitute. This substitute may be small round candies but these may help you then gain weight. You might consider exercising when you would rather have a cigarette. You can use a nicotine patch or even try hypnotism to get rid of the addiction.

You also should stay away from other smokers who have not decided to quit just yet because they will talk you into having just one smoke. And tell you to quit tomorrow.

Well that doesn’t work. Make your decision and use whatever substitutes you need to achieve your goal. You will feel better for it.
