Stretch marks are a normal part of teenage years for most girls and guys.

When a person grows or gains weight actually quickly (like during puberty), that person may get fine lines on the body called stretch marks.

Causes of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are caused when the skin is stretched to the point of breaking down, similar to elastic losing its' suppleness.

Losing collagen and elastin in the skin causes stretch marks, loss of tone, fine lines and wrinkles.

When there is a break or loss of elastin and collagen fibers or extreme stretching in the skin, the mark really shows from end to end to the epidermis (top layer of skin).

Symptoms of Stretch Marks

1.Indented streaks or lines in the skin
2.Multiple pink, red or purple streaks
3.Bright streaks that fade to light pink, white or grayish color

Stretch marks are frequent on the abdomen, breasts, upper arms, buttocks and thighs. Sometimes they can cover large areas of the body.

Treatment of Stretch Marks

Among the provisional solution for stretch marks is the application of specially formulated stretch mark creams.

These creams enclose cocoa butter, wheat germ oil and lanolin. They help to heal stretch marks by rebuilding the structure of your skin.

The use of conceal or camouflage cosmetics on the exaggerated area will reduce the visibility of the stretch mark scars.

Home Remedies for Stretch Marks

Application of vitamin K cream is also beneficial in the stretch marks treatment. The foods contain vitamin K can also be included in the diet and they are green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, liver and dairy products.

Applying lavender oil on the marks thrice a day will fade up the marks soon. This is one of the simple and good home remedies for stretch marks.

Application of Aloe Vera gel or vitamin E also helps to cure stretch marks and is also good home remedy for stretch marks.

Application of Vaseline intensive care lotion on the stomach during pregnancy helps in the prevention of stretch marks.

Application of cocoa butter throughout pregnancy helps in thef stretch marks treatment.

Eating good amounts of seeds and nuts that contain zinc prevent stretch marks. This is a good diet for stretch marks.
