Moving and Storage by Supercheap Storage

Movingcan be exciting †a new home, a new city, new places to explore. Still, I don’t know anyone masochistic enough to enjoy the logistical side of moving! Packing up everything you own into boxes, shifting it and unpacking sounds simple. The reality is that it can take months of planning to ensure nothing goes wrong. Today we are looking at several ways you can cut down on the hassle of moving house, and save your stress for something worthwhile!

1. Module storage units

If the logistics of your move mean that you’ll need short term storage, there is one simple, cost effective way to take the stress out of your move that few people are aware of. Look for companies that offer module storage units, rather than offering storage sheds or space for your thing to go into â€loose’. Otherwise, your furniture and boxes will need to be unloaded and re-loaded by storage facility staff, adding to the cost of using storage immensely. With module storage units:
- The company loads your things into a shipping container
- The container goes to storage facility via truck and is stored in a warehouse
- The warehouse is able to achieve much better space utilization because everything is in crates, rather than loose
- When it needs to be transported, your crate is loaded onto a truck
- Either you or your removal company can unload at the other end.
Check around †only a few storage facilities have this very sensible solution available.

2. Keep a master list
When you start arranging things for your move, create a master document containing all:
- Phone numbers
- Policy numbers
- Addresses
- Dates indicated by companies when action is needed
This way all of your necessary info is in one spot, and any disasters can be easily rectified.

3. Professional cleaning
Once all the furniture is out of a house, a professional cleaning service could actually be a very important investment in your sanity! Carpet steam cleaning is one of the biggest costs †assess whether you really need to have it done. Once your moving andstoragecompany has left, you don’t need to think about your old place anymore!

4. Mail redirections
Rather than trying to anticipate in advance the specific companies that will be contacting you by mail, simply instate a redirection. It is sensible to make sure that places like banks, schools, insurance companies, the tax office and any government agencies have your new address ASAP. Then a redirection lets you pick and choose who you want to have your new address!
5. Arrange your own insurance cover for peace of mind
If you’re the sort of person that likes to stay in control of their activities and keep an eye on what’s happening, arranging your own insurance cover for while your goods are in transit can really take a weight off your mind. Your moving and storage company will generally have their own, however it might only cover items up to a certain aggregate or per-item value.
6. Arranging disconnections †what to do in advance
Utility disconnections and reconnections are a tricky part of moving. Here are some guidelines to both ensure services are available when you need them, and you don’t end up paying more than you need to:
- Arrange internet connection at least a fortnight in advance, and internet disconnection at least a month in advance. There can be quite a waiting period for these services.
- Arrange electricity disconnection a few weeks in advance, but let the company know the date disconnection is to take place. Give yourself a few days leeway.
- Do the same for the phone line †give notice, but set a date for disconnection.
