Slowly make place on the market is the traditional Swedish snus produced by several big brands like General, Ettan, or Skruf. One of the most well known companies that manufacture snus is Swedish Match. Their newest product is General Onyx. This is also thought to be the best product because of the blend and the packaging and the improved pouch. There are other General snus products offered on the market. These products are: General loose, General Maxi Portion, General Mini Portion, General Mini White Portion, General Silver Portion, General Portion, and General White Portion. All these products along with other Swedish snus brands make snus more and more popular. In Sweden for example snus started as a product for the working class and became a product for the high class society. It is not the price that makes it a high class product, but other features offered and the fact that it is a smokeless source of nicotine. The snus produced in Sweden comes in two types: the loose type and the portioned one. If the loose type allows the user to prepare his or her portion, the portioned type comes in three different sizes: mini, large or standard and maxi. When it was first developed it was intended to give one the nicotine they needed while leaving their hands free for work. Today however it is becoming more popular because it is smokeless, offers the same amount of nicotine as other tobacco products, and it is a cleaner version of the actual smoking. Swedish snus is placed under the upper lip near the gum. If the mini pouches are used it is invisible, thus if you do not want anyone to know you are using it just don’t tell them. Also because it is packed you do not have to spit it and it is easier to dispose of it. A portion should be kept for approximately half an hour, but one can have as many portions a day as wanted. The General snus brand is one of the few brands that offer maxi portions. The maxi portions are usually twice the amount of a standard portion and thus there are visible when placed under the lip, but they also have a higher level of nicotine. The nicotine amount in a pouch varies from 0.4 mg to 15 mg. The research made shows that the amount of nicotine the body absorbs is half the amount of nicotine present in a snus portion. The amount of nicotine absorbed in the blood varies depending on the amount of nicotine contained in the snus portion, but is usually absorbed in proportion of 10-20 percent. General snus offers pouches with four, six, eight, and eleven grams of nicotine. Even though the nicotine is absorbed quickly, but it is still slower than the nicotine absorbed from smoking cigarettes. However it still produces dependence. The snus is made through a special process and the ingredients used are all used in the alimentary industry too. Nonetheless not a lot of countries allow snus to be marketed or even sold. The countries where the snus is promoted are also promoting it as a way of reducing the harm produced by smoking. During the manufacturing process the tobacco can be grinded differently. The finite product does not have to be chewed or sucked on like the snuff. Simply placing the portion under the upper lip will release nicotine though the mixing of the snus with the saliva.
