Perhaps one of the most irritating problems that can occur on a Windows OS is the Unmountable Boot Volume blue screen error message. Often, the blue screen freeze occurs after installation or update of software or hardware. If this is the case it's highly likely that there is a fault with the registry key or device driver. The first thing to do, if you suspect it's a driver problem, is to roll back the driver and see if the error comes up again. If this solves the issue, contact the manufacturer for an updated driver or visit their site. Hasn't stopped the blue screen error codes from coming up? Search for a solution online by typing in the error message. Stop error messages are supposed to contain the cause of the problem, but unless you're a techie then it'll mean very little to you. Even for an expert PC technician, an error code may not provide an instant answer and take a little trial and error before a solution is found. If you're plagued with error messages and your computer is running at a crawl these days, the likeliest reason for stop error codes is a bloated registry. It doesn't take long for a computer's registry to fill up with registry entries. You should think of your PC's registry as the gatekeeper. It stores configuration of software, applications, hardware, system setup information, user profiles, preferences and a whole lot more. It also keeps tabs on what you've been doing on your computer, like what files and folders you've created, installations of software and hardware and internet browsing. The installation of third party software, as well as incorrect software installation can add unwanted registries as well as duplicates. Quite quickly the registry folder gets overcrowded with these redundant entries, and begins to take a toll on the performance of your PC. Even the difference between a brand new computer and one that's just had a few months use is noticeable in performance for some users. Registry entries can become corrupted and damaged by spyware, viruses, Trojan horse, adware. There is no such thing as complete protection, but having good antivirus and anti-spyware installed and running will help to protect your PC. Always check that your security software is active and that it's constantly updated. Windows firewall setting should automatically on, but check that this is the case for more protection. A registry in disarray is the likeliest cause for the Blue Screen of Death and other errors. Your computer's OS might also be made unstable as a result, causing screen freezes and other problems. Because restart, is the only way to get out of a blue screen crash, data can be lost. Cleaning your registry out of corrupt and useless registry entries is an effective way of speeding up your PC. But do bear in mind that there is no 'undo' option in the registry editor. Therefore you must always make a back up of the registry before you edit it. Making the wrong changes to the registry can cause irreversible damage to the OS. If you plan to edit the registry, you should save anything that you want to keep on your computer on an external hard drive. However, this isn't the wisest idea, especially if you're not sure or comfortable in doing so. Getting a trained PC technician to look at your PC is a better idea. An inexpensive alternative to fix your computer is to use a registry cleaning program.
