f it even got a smudge of dirt on it, I would not hesitate to break out a hose, water and soap and quickly wash my car. It got to the point where I actually made passengers feel uncomfortable in my car because I didn't want anyone eating or drinking anything for fear of spilling something in my vehicle. While I may have overreacted a bit back then, making sure that you take care of your vehicle is an important part of its overall maintenance. Part of taking care of your car involves making sure that you bring it in for regularly scheduled maintenance. The most popular example of this can be seen in oil changes. While some mechanics will recommend taking your car in every 3,000 miles; there has been evidence to suggest that a vehicle owner really doesn't need to bring their car in until they've reached the 5,000 mile mark. In some cases (as is mine), there are some vehicles that are equipped with a built in feature that will let you know what percentage of your oil life is remaining in your vehicle. For example, on newer models of the Honda, once your vehicle dashboard indicates that you have approximately ten to fifteen percent of your oil remaining, you are supposed to bring your vehicle in to have the oil changed. Other items that you will want to check regularly include your other fluids such as windshield washer fluid, brake fluid and tires. Don't wait until it is too late to do this. By making sure that your vehicles receive regular maintenance, you can keep yourself and your car in tip top shape. Especially if you are preparing to take a long road trip from someplace like Florida to some place like New York, you will want to make sure that your tires are properly inflated, that your fluids are all filled up to where they are supposed to be and that you have up-to-date maintenance items inside of your vehicle. Some of these items include things such as a jack, spare tire, flares, a flashlight and any other tools that may be required during an emergency. Remember, it is better to be over prepared for a trip versus not being prepared enough. By taking care of your vehicle, you will increase the life and longevity of your car for as long as you own it.
