Though stone is considered a hard substance, it still is susceptible to damage and stains. And given the price of these stylish options, you need to know the proper maintenance care for these items lest you want all that spending go to waste. So here, we present some maintenance tips for your kitchen granite countertop and marble kitchen countertops.

You know that when you’re working in the kitchen, things can get hot and a bit rough. You have a lot of hot pans, chopping and acidic substances going around. For that, you need to know first what kind of stone you’re dealing with on your kitchen counter tops. If you have granite kitchen countertops, then you don’t have much to worry about when it comes to heat and burn marks. Granite is a tough stone and it can handle the heat and scorching that comes with placing hot pans on your kitchen counters. Granite also don’t chip and pit easily, so it’s a sturdy choice for kitchen countertops. But when it comes to marble, this is where you need to take extra care. Since marble is softer than granite, it can chip and pit easily. Also, depending on the finish, marble can etch easily. Etching usually happens because of acids and other corrosive substance taking effect on the stone. If the marble has a honed finish, then marble has more resistance against etching. But if it has a polished finish, then it’s more susceptible to etching. So one consideration is to select a honed finish instead of a polished one, and try to use granite for your kitchen countertop.

That said, it’s essential that you keep acidic substances, like citric acid, away from marble countertops. Since marble scratch easily, also avoid using abrasive materials like scrubs in cleaning marble countertops. Another advice is to use stone sealers on your stone countertops at least once a year. Though you need a professional to do it for you, you can be sure that your stone slabs would last longer, and your investment on your stone countertops more secure.
