Techniques To Look After Betta Fish

By: Garya Smith Home | Home-and-Family | Pets

Of the many fishes that you could keep as a pet, the Betta fish is certainly one of the finest options. They're cheap and can be bought for a mere $6 and are also very easy to keep. There are things you have to know when it comes to looking after the betta fish to ensure it's contentment happiness and energy.

One of the first and the most critical things you'll need to take excellent care of your betta fish is a gallon bowl. Most pet shop owners will insist that a single cup of water alone will be sufficient for your fish. However, this is not true. Of course, a betta fish will stay alive in the miniscule cup of water but it will not keep healthy. If you need to keep your betta fish happy, you must have one gallon bowl at least. And, if you can get a 2 gallon bowl, it is much better.

Having a tiny bowl causes the water temperature to rise in the day and cold down at night. This causes extreme temperature fluctuations, which can cause your fish to become ill. Besides, a smaller bowl calls for daily change of water. But if you've got a bigger bowl, changing the water 3 times in a week will serve the purpose.

Keep only one betta in a bowl. Many people make the standard mistake of placing two or more betta fishes in the same bowl. Although the bowl is sufficiently spacious, you shouldn't keep more than one in a bowl. This is as betta fishes do not get along well with each other. Even male and female fishes attack one another, making it difficult for each other to survive.

It's been noted that betta fish needs a lot of warmth for its survival. The temperature that is best suited for the well being of the betta fish is seventy five degrees to eighty degrees. Such a temperature can be simply maintained in the summer season. It is clear that in the nights the temperature of water lowers down. This can adversely affect the health of your pet fish. So as to avoid such situation, you can utilize the tube heaters. In this context rubber cover flaps can also prove to be significantly helpful. In addition you can offer heat to the betta fish by simply placing it on a seedling heat pad.

Another important thing to remember is that you should not over-feed your Betta fish. Ideally, you should feed them only a single time a day. And guarantee you aren't feeding them food that is more than the size of their eyes.

So dump the notion that taking care of betta fish is rocket science. All you need to do is to follow the given tips. This may ensure that your pet betta fish lives for long and that too with lots of ease.
