There is some discussion in expat circle in Thailand regarding which Thai visa is the most useful. Some argue that a Thailand "Other" Visa is the most worthwhile to obtain because its description is so vague. Many expats use an education visa to remain in Thailand because it often does not require the need to do a "border run." Bearing all of this in mind, a Thai business visa is often the most versatile visa that one can obtain to stay in Thailand. The Thai Business Visa holder can obtain a Thai Work Permit The right to legally work in the Kingdom of Thailand should not be taken for granted. Obtaining a work permit can be a difficult endeavor and having the wrong visa can cause complications or completely frustrate one's ability to obtain a Thai work permit. The Thai Non-Immigrant "O" Visa does not necessarily confer the right to obtain a work permit. If the reason for obtaining an O Visa is based upon marriage to a Thai national then generally it will be easier to get a work permit on this type of Thai visa. In other circumstances, the Thai Labour Ministry is not prone to issuing Thai work permits to those bearing a visa designated "other". The bearer of a Thai Visa designated for education purposes is effectively banned from getting a Thai work permit. Exceptions can theoretically be made to this restriction where the Education Visa holder wishes to work on a part-time basis in Thailand. As a rule, the assumption is made that the job in question is connected to the institution in which the visa bearer is taking courses. The Thai Business Visa confers the unambiguous right to a work permit should the Labor regulations be met. This privilege should not be overlooked when choosing a Thai visa. The Thai Business Visa vs. The Thai Tourist Visa The Thai Tourist Visa is a great option for those wishing to remain in Thailand over a short term period, but it should probably not be used as a long term visa option. One of the main reasons for this is the fact that the Thai Tourist Visa generally only lasts for 2 months with the possibility of extension for another 15 days. Conversely, a Thai Business Visa has 90 days of continuous validity and if one obtains a 1 year multiple entry Thai visa, then one would have 4 entries with a duration of 90 days per entry. The Business Visa may be extended for as much as 1 year at a time.
