Most of the tour groups will include these 3 places into the sightseeing itinerary - The Peak, Star Ferry and Temple Street Night Market. The Peak in the Hong Kong Island is ranked as the most popular tourism spot in Hong Kong. The Peak offers excellent view of Northern part of the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. It is a great place to begin to explore this dynamic city in Asia. The most convenient way to visit the Peak is by the Peak Tram. The Peak Tram has served Hong Kong over the past 120 years and its service is fully computerized with extreme safety features. The lower terminus is about 10 minutes walk from J2 exit of Central MTR station. Alternately, you may take bus 15C from the Star Ferry Pier. A visit to the Sky Terrace must not to be missed. It offers the visitors the best bird's eye view to the Victoria Harbor, the Kowloon Peninsula and some of the small islands around Hong Kong. Other than its spectacular views during the day and night, you can also have great shopping experience at the Peak Galleria, where you can grab good bargains and great souvenirs. There are also many restaurants that serve various cuisines with great atmospheres and dining experiences. The famous Madame Trussauds wax museums have one of its flagships on the Peak too. You can visit the museum and you can find wax figures of many famous local Hong Kong artistes as well as international stars. Star Ferry is one of the most popular and common means of transportation for the locals to cross the Victoria Harbor. Star Ferry has served Hong Kong for over 100 years. Recently, Star Ferry Pier had been moved from Central to Wan Chai due to city development plan. Now the Star Ferry shuttles between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, as well as some other busy districts. One of the main reasons may be the price, the fare for the upper deck is HK$2.20 while the lower deck of a mere cost of HK$1.70. This is a very affordable price and especially when the traffic during the rush hours encourages commuters to opt for ferries than land transports. Tourists are able to capture panoramic views of both banks of the harbors and it is especially beautiful during dusk where you can see the sun setting down behind the skyscrapers. It is definitely a great bargain and you will get to see one of the best sightseeing activities in Hong Kong. The operating hours is between 7am to 11pm and the ferries' intervals are only 10 min apart. You can also enjoy a leisure afternoon with this breezy ride across the island. Hong Kong is also well known as shopping paradise in Asia. Temple Street Market is popular among tourists and locals. It is the busiest flea night market in Hong Kong. It operates from the mid afternoon till 3-4 am in the morning. It is located at Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon. You can find souvenirs, shoes and bags to hand phone accessories, mostly fake watches and fake branded goods but in high quality, and even pirated CDs, DVDs and so on. Just a word of precaution, do pay special attention to your valuables at all times in these crowded places. Pickpockets are very active in narrow and crowded market place. Using a money pouch is a good idea to secure your passport and cash. As a general guideline, never flash your cash in the public. Keep your valuables in sight at all times. Local food stalls are another attraction of the night market. Local snacks and cooked local specialty dishes can be found along the streets. But do not bear too much expectation to the hygiene standards if you want to patronize them. Sharing table is a common practice among locals, so be mentally prepared. Cantonese Opera street performance is definitely the highlight of the night market. This cultural performance is scarce in modern society, as younger generation has shown less interest in it. Do catch a show or two if you have time to spare. That is a great way to learn about Hong Kong Culture.
