Sodium polyacrylate is another potentially harmful chemical used in disposable diapers. It changes into a gel-like substance when it gets wet. A similar substance was used in certain feminine tampons until it was discovered to cause toxic shock syndrome in certain situations. A health survey has discovered that using disposable diapers could harm the testicular cooling mechanism in males. A baby may need to be changed as much as 3000 times or more per year. The price of generic disposable diapers is about 25 cents and brand names diapers are about 38 cents each. That turns out to be about 32 cents each on average. So, your monthly cost for each child may be as much as 78.00 each month. Cloth diapers may be a more expensive at first, but the cost is really not that much more than disposable diapers. Just think of all the money you can save by reusing them multiple times. If you care for cloth diapers like you would your own clothes, they will last a very long time through many generations.
