The Different Possible Routes To Pursue A Plumbing Career

By: Greath Owen Home | Business | Careers-Employment

Plumbing is today one of the best means of learning a livelihood. You are sure to have heard of the stories about the amount of money a plumber can learn. With lots of hard work, determination and extra work, it is very much possible for a plumber to earn a large salary. It is always best for a plumber to work on high profile construction projects and be available for emergency on calls as this boosts their earnings.

The obvious modus operandi to adopt to pursue plumbing lies in joining plumbing schools and pursuing one of the many plumbing courses they offer. as there are many plumbing courses which teach different aspects of plumbing in each course, it is important that you choose the plumbing course that offers what you need to learn in plumbing.

If you are employed as a plumber, and wish to specialize in plumbing, you can do so by working towards achieving the NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or 3 in plumbing, which includes their technical certificate. To complete this course, you have to find the right training provider, and discuss it with your employer. Apprenticeship is a very popular route to enter plumbing where you are employed by a plumber and paid wages while you get to undertake training at a training provider on a day-release basis.

The demand in plumbing has increased tremendously over the past years because of a shortage of plumbers. However, if you find that the plumbing courses in your locality are full, you could always pursue another trade like welding or plastering. As these are similar skills, you may end up with an employer who will be more than willing to train and hire you as a plumber.

However in some situations, you may have to work hard to get a break in plumbing through your employer. This is because some employers don't provide for funding of trainees over the age of 24 as they are a bit reluctant to hire older people. this is because employers are of the impression that older employees tend to expect, or need more money as salary as they are most likely to have financial commitments like loans and mortgages.

Before pursuing plumbing as a career, decide yourself if you have the skills and aptitudes required to become a plumber. As a plumber you should be able to follow technical drawings and plans and have a methodical approach to solving problems. It is necessary to have practical and problem solving skills to become a plumber, and should be physically fit to work both at heights and in cramped spaces.
