Even if you aren't a bodybuilder, you need protein, and you specifically need whey protein because of the amazing benefits. Whey protein was once considered a waste product in the production of cheese. That is no longer the case. But what is the difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate?

First, let's take a look at the benefits of whey protein, as a whole. Whey protein has been proven to help build muscle, to help muscles recuperate, to help manage weight, to be beneficial in cardiovascular care, to provide adequate nutrition to cancer patients, to control diabetes, to prevent breast cancer, to reduce stress, and to improve the memory.

These are just some of the benefits. Whey protein also improves physical performance, is important in infant nutrition, is used in the care and healing of wounds, and slows down the aging process of muscles and bones. With all of these benefits, you might consider whey protein to be a miracle food.

But then, confusion sets in. You are convinced that you need to add whey protein to your diet, and you rush off to the health food store to acquire some of this miracle food. You are confronted with a choice. Would you like whey protein concentrate or whey protein isolate?

If you are like most newcomers to this healthier eating world, you will stand there with a blank look on your face for several seconds, if not several minutes, before wondering what the difference between the two is. You may even tell the sales clerk that you want the one that offers all of these miraculous benefits.

The truth is that you get those benefits from either whey protein concentrate or whey protein isolate. However, there is a vast difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate. The first difference you will note is the price. Whey protein isolate is a good deal more expensive than the concentrate. This is because whey protein isolate is the most pure form of whey protein available.

Whey protein isolate contains about 90 protein, and does have a higher level of fat and lactose.
