The Game Of Soccer - Need Ideas On Playing And Coaching?

By: RalphMcarther Home | Business | Home-Business

Benefits of Holding Scrimmages

As in all sports, scrimmage is a valuable practice in soccer. No amount of drills can replace the lessons learned in practice games. Coaches should be wary of creating competition within a team, and should make sure to rotate team members for scrimmage games. Another benefit to the team as a whole is that scrimmages are great times to let players try and understand other soccer positions. Many players gain confidence as they perform skills like shooting and defending without the pressure of a real game. Coaches can also benefit from the lack of pressure: rather than focusing on trying to develop winning plays, they can focus on observation and form plans for developing the skills of the team. Do not forget that as a coach, your responsibility is to point out areas in which your team can improve, and there is no better time to do this during a scrimmage practice. Finally, scrimmage lets team members work on speed and strength while working towards a goal.

Helping Soccer Players Avoid Dehydration

Soccer can be one of the most demanding sports on a human body, but unfortunately some players think that they do not have to drink liquid while playing a game. Many soccer players are at risk for dehydration. However, every player on the field loses a lot of water due to constant motion. Players who are younger or less experienced need to be reminded often to hydrate themselves. One of the best things you can do as a parent or coach is to always have water accessible to the team. Another good idea is for coaches to occasional teach players about dehydration. Teaching soccer players to be more self-sufficient and aware of hydration issues will lead to less emergencies.

Defensive Strategies in Soccer

Defensive players have the job of guarding the goal area from the ball. In order to perform well in this position, it is important to be able to predict the movements of your opponents. The first step to being a good defender is to always focus on where the ball is. Many offensive players have learned several techniques in concealing the direction that they intend to go. Therefore, the best defenders should be able to distinguish between set-ups and the true direction the opponents will go. Defenders should always know where their teammates are at, so they can pass the ball to them as quickly as possible. Communication with the goalie is also key for the defenders.

Why Do Soccer Practices Use So Much Repetition?

Repetition during practice is crucial in soccer, as it is in many sports. It is both typical and smart for a player to repeat a drill about twenty times or more before beginning another drill. All of these drills will also likely be repeated from practice to practice and from season to season. Most drills are created to focus on developing and refining the basic moves in soccer, including shooting, dribbling, and passing. It is important for players, coaches, and parents to understand that this repetition will encourage perfection on the field. The point is not to do something over and over again, the point is to get better and better at a certain skill. If a player does it wrong, a player must repeat it until he or she can do it right. The end goal of repetitive drills is for a player to become so good at a certain skill that he or she can perform it flawlessly and reflexively.
