The wealth and well being of the society depend on how well we educate our children and youth. Math and science education imparts the students with advance thinking and problem solving skills. Numerical aptitude related to Math and science is responsible for the advancement of science and technology. This, in turn has brought about a success in the 21st century economy. The responsibility of educating our children particularly in science and mathematics is vital because most of the students prepare and pursue careers in science, technology and engineering. Teachers create practical working conditions in the Math and Science laboratories to provide professional development opportunities in the class. In today’s world, high level knowledge and skills in science and mathematics is needed for success. The Exxon Mobil foundation is the primary philanthropic arm of the Exxon Mobil Corporation in the United States. It was founded in 1955 as Esso Education Foundation; the Foundation’s name was changed to ExxonMobil Foundation in 2000 with the merger of the Exxon Corporation and Mobil Corporation. It also supports programs that encourage students to take an active interest in careers in the math and science fields, support professional development of highly qualified teachers and promote the involvement of women and minorities in these subjects. In 2010 this foundation directed nearly $110 million to education worldwide out of which more than $42 million was dedicated to math and science education in the United States. Exxon Mobil become a founding sponsor of the National math and science initiative in 2007 and committed $125 million to support it. Various teaching, learning, and institutional innovations in undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education have appeared in the past decade. Some focus on making science accessible and meaningful to the huge majority of students who will not pursue STEM majors or careers; others aim at increasing the multiplicity of students who enroll and succeed in STEM courses and programs; still other efforts focus on reforming the overall curriculum in specific disciplines. The research base on innovations in undergraduate STEM education was expanding speedily, but the process of synthesizing that knowledge base had not begun yet. If future investments were to be informed by the past, then the field clearly needed a retrospective look at the ways in which earlier innovations had influenced undergraduate STEM education. The National Research Council (NRC) inspects the impact and effectiveness of selected STEM undergraduate education innovations. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is a fundamental facet of everyone's lives, providing all the students with access to high-quality education.
