The Leading Cause Of Hair Loss For Women Is Female Hormonal Hair Loss

By: R Kalpana Home | Health-and-Fitness

The number of women dealing with female hormonal hair loss is surprisingly high. Female Pattern Baldness is one of the major causes of loss of hair in women.

This is so common today that 25% of the population suffer from this disorder. What causes Female Pattern Baldness or FPB?

Hormones are responsible for this problem. Hair thinning is typically caused by one of three types of hormonal disorders.

One is a hormonal problem due to genetics. The loss of hair is hereditary and can come from either side of your family.

It is a myth that hereditary problems are caused by either your mother's side or your father's side of the family. But you do need to check on special treatments if this is the cause of your hair loss.

One of the hormones that affects the hair is DHT. This is a hormone that is typically associated with men, but it is also present in women.

The hormone is more plentiful in women who are going through or have gone through menopause. This is because estrogen levels drop and allow androgens to convert to DHT.

Normally estrogen keeps this hormone at bay, but when the levels are lower than normal, it cannot fight these androgens as well.

When DHT is unregulated by other hormones, the hair follicles are affected. The blood supply is cut off and they begin to shrink.

It is almost as if the DHT is choking the hair follicles. The hair is receiving no nutrients, vitamins or the blood it needs to survive.

This causes the loss of hair as well as no new hair growing back. When this happens it is called FPB and affects quite a high percentage of women.

This problem is not going to be solved by running out and buying a shampoo that says it will regrow hair. It also will not help to turn to surgery to replace the hair you have lost.

The answer to this female hormonal hair loss is to decrease the amount of DHT in the body. There are various ways to do this.

Natural products that contain ingredients proven to reduce DHT and stop it from attacking hair follicles are available. They may include nettle and saw palmetto.

As a matter of fact, saw palmetto works for men and women. This herb is often used for men with prostate problems.

There are minerals that are essential for the hair to grow as well. Magnesium and zinc are two of these.

Another time during a woman's life that they may have problems with female hormonal hair loss is when they are pregnant. A woman's body changes when she is pregnant and hormone levels become unbalanced.

This will cure itself when the baby is born or at least by the time it is a few months old. Then the hormone levels will become stabilized and the hair will grow back.

A natural ingredient that has shown considerable promise in regulating hormonal problems is evening primrose oil. Hair follicles have minute blood vessels that are responsible for creating hair.

Under normal circumstances, the hair follicle grows faster than many other cells. When they are blocked they cannot grow.

In conclusion, the key to female hormonal hair loss is to make sure the hair follicles can do their job.
