It is said that he industrial revolution - a turning point in history when machines started doing much of the work that man was doing till then - became possible because of the steam engine. Though not comparable to the industrial revolution, the introduction of steam cleaning has brought about a mini revolution in the cleaning industry. Steam cleaning works by using hot steam to detach dirt from the surface to which it is clinging. The functionalities of steam cleaning make it a more effective cleaning mechanism than conventional cleaning. The kitchen being a place where grimy dirt easily sticks to the surface through spilled milk, or a blob of butter that fell down, or fallen crumbs, steam cleaning has been found to be especially beneficial for kitchen cleaning. The extra effectiveness of steam cleaning is mainly because of the ability of steam to penetrate deeper into the surface pores and loosen the dirt. Scrubbing or wiping can easily remove loosened dirt. Further, steam cleaning is the only form of cleaning that does not have to use any form of chemicals at all. Even while using a conventional broom and mop, it sometimes become necessary to use strong detergents while doing kitchen cleaning to remove stains or grime. Hot, boiling water is something that is used even for sterilizing, and it is considered a natural disinfectant. Since the cleaning agent in steam cleaning is hot water, it sanitizes the whole area that it cleans. There is no further need to use a deodorant or anything of the sort. Steam cleaning can also be done using dry steam, which will contain only about 5% moisture so that the cleaned area will dry up instantly. While steam cleaning is ideal for kitchen cleaning, it can be equally effective in every other part of a house or an office or a restaurant. Doors, windows, and screens can all be cleaned by steam cleaning. Steam cleaning machines have temperature controllers, which you can use to increase or decrease the temperature of the steam to suit different types of surfaces. Where the area to be cleaned is not very grimy or sticky, steam cleaning can be done directly without any preparation. However, if the area is a bit stained or sticky, either plain water, or water mixed with vinegar can be sprayed there in advance to loosen the base of the dirt. A soaked floor will respond faster to steam cleaning. Whether it is kitchen cleaning or window cleaning, one has got to be very careful about handling steam. Hot steam can burn and one should be careful not to tilt the handle or nozzle in the wrong direction. The whole equipment itself would have become very hot since water is heated within it and care must be taken to see that the steam cleaning machine does not bump against anything.
