Ukraine is situated in Central Europe and it is a unitary state. There are 24 regions which called oblast" are comprised into this country, but there are also two urban districts that are considered to be separate provinces: the metropolis of Ukraine Kiev and Sevastopol. The result of the orange revolution which took place in 2004, is that Ukraine has the status of semi-presidential republic. The current kind of authority is more democratic that the previous one. Now the country is controlled not by a single person, but by several branches of power. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian border is the longest one it is from North and East. The country is mostly woodless plain with mountains in the Crimea and low Carpathian Mountains. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and divide it into two approximately identical parts. There is a great deal of hydroelectric power plants are placed on river Dnieper. Ukraine has a quite mild climate, so the winters are not so cold here but a lot of rivers and lakes are commonly covered by ice. The rain is frequently observed in summer commonly but in general, summers are quite hot. Agriculture is the area which is very developed in this region. It is produced by such favorable climate conditions. The perfectly improved agricultural sphere permits Ukraine to export their products to a number of countries. It exports sugar, corn, vegetables, etc. Kiev is a very old city and it is the metropolis of Ukraine. Even nowadays we can find some buildings dated 5th century here. That city is just wonderful. All the Slavic civilizations have come from that city. It was founded as a small trade town but it has developed into the incredible modern megapolis. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and completely demolished, it lost its eminence for a long time. Great impact on the development was produced by the foundation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic helped Kiev to regain prominence. The population of Kiev is raising at a high speed and according to the census info in 2003 it was nearly 3 million people. We may not even nearly estimate the amount of different ethnic groups which are included into this wonderful city. More than 120 ethnic groups live here. During the 70s and 80s, the city saw constant increasing in population which in turn reflected in the development of real estate. Among yellow and white blocks of flats created modern downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has gained the status of full-fledged European city with many expensive restraints and luxury hotels. The economy of Ukraine is growing at constant rate. The increasing is also reflected in salaries that have also rose in real value about 20 percents per year from 2001 till 2006. All the countries comprised into WTO are willingly inviting Ukraine to become a member of this organization.
