Sports do not stand still and in this plugged in world, information moves faster than ever. Lines open and are modified around the clock. You always want the latest information †from a range of sources †to make the best decision. There are sports from around the world on the board and some games offer multiple odds. The biggest games offer the typical spread bet, plus a money line and a total (over/under) bet. The spread bet uses a point spread to offer the same payout to either competitor. A money line is a bet on who will win †with the payout reduced for the favored team, and enhanced for the underdog. Additionally, quarter and halftime betting is growing in popularity. For big games, like the Super Bowl, there are props and exotic wagers to bet on specific game stats or other outcomes. Some sports books also offer live wagering, where the outcome of the next play can be wagered! When you make a spread bet and the bet pushes, you get your money back†unless you are betting on soccer! Soccer betting includes a line for a tie †so a push is actually a loss. This fact makes soccer betting especially difficult †and can really put the odds in the house's favor. Quite often standing around the water cooler, the latest chances for the local team to win the championship is contemplated. This information is readily available †if not via your mobile phone, then certainly by the nearest computer. But futures are also the betting format for sports like tennis, golf, motor racing and others †any sport with more than two sides. These odds can either be given as a fraction or a number. The fraction is read as amount won over amount wagered †so 2/1 pays $2 for every $1 wagered. If a whole number is given, it often has to be divided by 100 to obtain the payout per dollar. So +200 is the same as 2/1. Horse racing can be another story, completely. Bets on horses change and the odds at post time (end of betting) are used for payouts. Horse racing is available at dozens of tracks across the United States and more around the world. The odds do not tell the full story to bet on horses †you really do not know the payout until after the race. You can estimate the payout on a win, place, or show bet †but have no clue on the exacta or trifecta †never mind multi-race odds like a pick 3. And to make horses more complicated, the payouts are often quoted per every $2 bet. And betting comes goes beyond sports †some sports book post odds for entertainment propositions, political elections, or even celebrity news. These odds can be for an upcoming award show or gossip, like "who will have the next baby" Be sure to bookmark your favorite odds sources. Always check to make sure the information is up to date.
