When the dates are out for the exams, students run here and there for a particular answer to a question that is quite common across various exams. They usually ask what would be the pattern of questions. What things are to be read before going into the exam? And what should be the mode of preparations? The answer to these questions falls on the responsible shoulders of their teachers and coaching institutes. In a way, this is of prime importance for the students. Much before the exam dates are actually announced, the complete course is to be prepared. For the IIT JEE exam, this shall include all the portions of physics, chemistry, and most importantly mathematics. These subjects are common to all the plus two colleges in the country. The syllabus is also almost the same across different boards. But as the exam dates near or are announced, extensive preparations would be confusing to the students. For them, now is the time to delve deep into studies, but with a disciplined approach. Those who are able to crack the tough competition of the AIEEE exam make an approach that is more oriented towards answer solving rather than covering the theories. It is during this intensive phase of preparations that the pattern of questions is to be understood. Once the pattern is understood, students can know the type of questions that they most probably would face. Most of the questions are of the multiple choices types in the AIEEE exam. Students would be, therefore, required to solve a number of such objective type questions from previous years as well as mock papers within the restricted period of time. Practicing such questions allows the students to know their speed of solving the questions. This is a major criterion for a smooth cracking of such competitive exams where lakhs of students appear to get a good rank. For the IIT JEE exam, the students have to be thorough in subjective answers where they would be required to solve problems which tests their comprehension, reasoning ability and analytical capacity. Apart from such questions, there are also objective pattern of questions. This shows that one cannot be sure to crack the IIT JEE if he or she is thorough with the exam pattern of AIEEE. This is an example of how an individualized approach has to be done for different exam patterns. Similarly, for the GATE exam, one has to have a different approach to the preparations. In the question papers, there is a mix of single mark questions, two marks answers, and even quantitative aptitude and such questions. This goes on to show that students who have prepared exclusively for the objective type single mark questions will falter when they are given the longer answers. If the preparations from the very beginning are done by keeping in mind the patterns, the attempting of the questions in the final exam day is significantly easy. The trick is to have a thorough preparation in accordance with the exam pattern and this trick stands strong for solving various exams and cutting through the ranks to secure a top position.
