Every sport has its own lexicon that is unique. Players of these games sometimes seem to be speaking in a foreign language to those players not familiar with the sport. Poker is one such game that has its own special vocabulary. Many of these terms are not used in other sports. Understanding these terms will help you better understand the game of poker. In the game of poker players must make wagers as part of the game. The sum of money wagered by each player prior to the dealing of the card is referred to as an ante. Antes are used in variations of poker are such as seven card stud and other similar types. When it is your turn to make the wager there are several things you could do. For one you can call. This means that you will match the wager made by the previous player by putting that amount of money into the pot. If you choose to call you would still be in the game and less a following player decided to increase the amount of the bet. Should the player choose to make an increase this is referred to as a raise. Another option of poker player can have is to fold. When a player chooses to fold they're not calling the bet or raise in the bet. In essence folding means that the player has pulled them sell thought of that round of play. Players may also choose to check. A check is when a player bets no money. However checking allows the player the opportunity's to call any bet made by a player that plays after them. However if the player before you has made a bet you cannot check. You have three options available to you which would include folding raising or calling. Another poker strategy that can be used in a game is a checkraise. In this play the player still chooses to check and not make the wager. However if a player following them chooses to raise when the player checkraises, this allows them to increase their opponents bet.
