The Role Of The Carbon Footprint Consultant

By: Anna Stenning Home |

Getting to know your carbon footprint input can seem like a foreign language to most people, however, others may take the option in discussing how to manage their carbon emissions by going through a consultant. Carbon footprint consultants are commonly hired to go through carbon emissions in large corporate organisations whereby carbon emissions tend to be higher than average household emissions.

Global warming is a subject that many people will be familiar with, even if they are not clued up on what this is about. The government have over the last few years become more public about the issues of global and the impact we have on the earth. Carbon footprint consultants help to determine which areas emit the most carbon gases, how to reduce them effectively without affecting the company's performance and provide advice on long term maintenance plans.

The best way to approach reducing carbon footprint in a business, is to take action on the areas that causes the most amount of carbon emissions and improve the area that is not completely energy efficient. This does not mean that you would not spend out on a lot of money to replace existing equipment for energy efficient, but simple measures such as powering off all machinery or equipment at the end of the night is one way to avoid unnecessary energy consumption.

Carbon footprint consultants work slowly and advise clients to begin cutting out usage on equipment that consumes the most energy. The consultants do not work independently, but as part of a larger organisation that collate evidence from a one day inspection and consultation. They can identify what actions to take immediately and what steps they can continue over a period for effective long term energy consumption maintenance.

The more important things such as air conditioning in the building may not be the ideal thing to have; however, there are other ways of keeping the office cool by creating more space and powering down equipment when necessary. Other steps such as not using radiators and installing underfloor heating are another way of becoming energy efficient. Radiant heating tend to waste heat energy by rising up and becoming trapped by the ceilings.

Having energy efficient business boosts the reputation of the established making it seem like something people would want to be a part of. A lot of offices and corporate buildings have the highest levels of CO2 emissions than households, because of the multiple computers, heating, lighting and cooling systems they have in the building. For this reason consultants work better in changing the impact these companies have on the environment, taking care not to jeopardise the progress of how they are running.
