The Shape Of Steel Buildings Is Changing To Meet Tomorrow's Needs Today

By: Scott Best-28890 Home | Home-and-Family

Yes, the shape of steel and metal buildings is changing. Not so much in size and fundamental shape, but in more dramatic ways, such as design functionality and innovative technology , technology which makes them more user friendly ergonomic and energy efficient..

Today's metal building designs are such one might be inclined to say, that what ever the imagination can conceive in building design, can be accomplished in metal or steel buildings. These new designs are readily available from a multitude of manufacturers.

From simple outbuildings on a farm, to elaborate commercial complexes, steel and metal buildings are the new frontier of modern building construction. These new designs and manufacturing techniques are stepping up to meet and exceed the need of almost every type of building construction imaginable.

Even single family homes which were once almost exclusively built from wood construction methods have found favor in metal. With many new innovations in steel production, metal and steel beam construction is proving to be stronger and more cost effective then ever before. New home construction ideas have literally flooded the steel building industry.

With the technology to make exterior walls resemble those of more traditionally constructed homes by offering even more color choices and design configurations metal homes are ever increasing in popularity. Some companies such as Morton Buildings have their home designs listed on their website. One look at these designs will certainly convince you that the types of construction and design are almost limitless in the home metal building industry.

Because of steel's strength in span and load carrying ability, more and more open expanses in a home setting are possible. The idea that a metal home would be cold, hard and impersonal couldn't be farther from the truth. Although the overall construction is metal and beam construction, the interior fit and finish is in possibly more ways then ever before left up to the imagination of the owner. It can be done in traditional drywall, wood or any other home interior finishing materials.

Many types of metal home construction have concrete floor barriers between upper and lower floors, with traditional subflooring as well. This practice has benefits which can cut sound transfer up to 90% or more. Adding these kinds of innovations, opens up a large variety of choices in the types of heating and air-conditioning a home owner has to pick from , from in floor heating and cooling which is very efferent to more traditional forced air type systems.

Metal and steel construction for homes makes available more types of fit and finish options than conventional construction methods by their ability to be designed into the structure more efficiently then those same options might be in conventional construction.

Recently a metal home construction company took 20 people on a tour of 15 homes. The tour included homes of which half were of metal or steel construction and half were of more traditional wood construction. The homes were of comparable fit finish and size. All tours started on the interior of the home, where all participants were led in blind folded, to obscure which type of home they were in.

After touring the interior of the homes, by an overwhelming margin, those who took part found the fit and finish of the metal homes more pleasing and efficient then those of conventional construction. This is not to mention they usually commented on how sturdy the homes felt. Also, many times they were unable to tell from the inside which type of home they were touring, metal or conventional. You can find full details of this study at Metal Buildings R Us.Com.

At the end of this experiment, they were all questioned as to which home they would purchase if they had the option to do so. Seventeen out of 20 picked a metal home as the home of choice, especially once they found that, in most instances, the overall cost of constructing metal homes was less on a per square foot basis when compared to conventional construction.
