The Sony Ericsson W508 Grey is a flip phone which is ergonomically designed to look good and functionally designed to offer what the consumer wants. At a time when flip phones seem to have gone out of fashion, Sony goes against the grain and release a phone which brings back an element of nostalgia. Its dual screens and funky keypad are reminiscent of days gone by. However this phone is no slouch, it provides ample features to compete with any phone in the current market. The phone comes with 2 screens, the internal screen which is visible upon flipping open the phone is a 2.2 inch TFT display screen at offers resolution of 240 x 320 pixels with 256,000 colour variations possible. The secondary external screen is 1.1 inches and is a monochrome screen. Its purpose is simple it allows the user to view information without the need to flip open the phone. A 3.15 mega pixel camera is provided which is good enough to provide photographs of good quality for when the moment needs to be captured for posterity. The camera also offers the ability to capture video and does this at a respectable QVGA quality at 15 frames per second. Internal memory on this phone is 100 Mb with the option to increase to 16 Gb by using the built in memory stick micro connection. This level of memory storage is more than enough to cater for anyone’s requirements. One critical element of this phone is its Walkman MP3 player, as a Walkman phone it’s the integral part of this phone and it doesn't disappoint. It plays all the major file formats including MP3, AAC and WMA and also comes with a suite of features such as active shake control, to enable the user to change tracks by simply shaking the phone, TrackID music recognition and SenseMe, a useful little function that provides matches music to the mood of its user. The phone also provides an FM stereo radio for an alternative to listening to downloaded music. The phone also provides internet access through its HSDPA data connection, and blue tooth and USB for file transfer and file synchronisation. A suite of additional software includes a handy picture editor and organizer and the phone also comes with the ability to exchange style up covers, so the look of the phone can be altered to suit the mood or attire of the individual. The Sony Ericsson W508 Grey is primarily a phone which is aimed at the Walkman type of user, but Sony have been clever enough to realise that additional functions are required to compete within the current market and have therefore added a raft of functions that bring it in line with other mobile phones. This phone ticks all the boxes, it provides comprehensive functions and a neat and stylish designed phone all in one little package.
