We all know that accidents happen. And it's pretty obvious that the injuries that are caused by accidents could happen to anyone, anytime, and anywhere. People in the United States travel now more than ever, so it's not uncommon for some to be involved in an accident at some point in their lives. These accidents could happen when they're on vacation or simply when they travel back and forth from their home to their place of work. Although it would be nice to be able to ensure that no accidents will ever happen to anyone, that's unrealistic. What's not unrealistic, though, is that if you are involved in an accident that was caused by someone else - and if you sustain an injury from that accident - then there are personal injury laws that have been established that will help you get the compensation you deserve from the negligent party who caused the accident. The most common kinds of personal injury claims are for vehicle collisions, faulty products, and workplace injuries. Vehicle Collisions Every year there are more than 6 million car wrecks in the United States. Consequently, there are more than 50,000 deaths and more than 3 million injuries annually. A lot of different things can cause auto collisions. For example, speeding, being distracted while driving, and driving while drunk are three of the major causes of automobile accidents. If another car hits your car there's a good chance that the driver of the other car will be held responsible. It is usually very expensive to repair a vehicle that was involved in a car accident. And there could be some pretty hefty medical bills involved. In addition, wages could be lost because of the accident. In order to receive proper compensation, the person who was injured may need to file a lawsuit. Faulty Products Companies sometimes know that the products that they are selling are defective. If you have been injured by a defective product and it can be proved that the company knew that their product could potentially be dangerous, then they can be held accountable and you could receive damages. The most common types of product defects are breach of warranty, manufacturing defects, designs that are defective, and not providing sufficient warnings on the product and/or the packaging. Workplace Injuries Most businesses try to protect their employees from hazardous materials. They place safety precautions on any equipment that could be dangerous. They make sure that their equipment is kept up-to-date and that it is inspected regularly. However, some companies are not as conscientious as others. Instead of caring about their employees, they care most about their bottom line. Consequently they don't regularly inspect and test their equipment. Aside from equipment-related injuries, the most common workplace accidents may be auto injuries if employees are required to drive as part of their job. For example, when mail workers, truck drivers and delivery people are injured while working, the businesses they work for can be held accountable. In addition, over the past several decades many people who worked in the asbestos industry have held the companies they worked for responsible for any asbestos-related illnesses that they contracted. Very large settlements have been won by mesothelioma victims or their survivors.
