Themes Vs. Neutral Infant Bedding Sets And Furniture

By: Mark Etinger Home | Home-and-Family

Before your new bundle of joy enters into this world, parents have the daunting task of decorating the child's room. Not only do you need the proper furniture and accessories, you first need to paint. Only then can you create a cohesive room. If you know the sex of the baby, it's easy to coordinate everything in either blue or pink. However, some parents may want a more neutral tone, while others want a full blown Disney or Winnie-the-Pooh theme.

Many parents may find themselves disagreeing with each other over the child's new room. One parent may love the idea of having everything in the room covered with Disney princesses, while the other would rather tolerate just baby pink infant crib bedding. Themes are a great way for a child to display interest in something. However, until your baby reaches toddler years, he has no way of expressing himself. The infant's room, therefore, becomes more of a reflection on the parents. Nurseries that have themes will not only be pleasing to parents, but also appealing to the baby as he stares in wonder at all the different animals and characters.

Even if you do not want to know the sex of the child, there are plenty of gender neutral themes, such as Winnie-the-Pooh, baby animals, teddy bears, the circus, under water scenery, and Precious Moments bedding. The main drawback to choosing a theme is that you might have a more difficult time changing the furniture and accessories as your child ages. Your daughter loved Dora when she was three, but now she's seven and only likes princesses. Of course the infant crib bedding will have to go regardless, but if you purchased matching lighting, wallpaper, toy chests, and art, it will all have to be replaced. When choosing a theme, don't go too crazy with it, otherwise you will end up spending a lot more money on toddler furniture than necessary.

Choosing color schemes will be an easier option for many parents. For those not wishing to flood the room with nothing but pink or blue, you can use shades of light green and yellow -the two most gender neutral colors. As the child gets older, it'll be a bit easier to incorporate a theme. Your little boy's room can stay blue when you buy him a Disney Car's toddler bed -if that is what he is interested in. Simply add in a few accessories and some new bedding and the room can have a completely new look and feel. The best, and cheapest, way to continually evolve with your child's ever-changing interests is to update the bedding rather than change wallpaper and every matching piece of furniture.

After all is said and done, the decision will be a reflection of your taste and what you want to look at every time you walk into that room. Both themes and color schemes will delight any child, but keep it simple and beautiful. Over time, you child will want to express himself and you don't want it to be a costly endeavor each time.
