There Is Not A Single More Beneficial Activity You Could Do For Your Health Than Proper Exercise

By: Gen Wright Home | Health-and-Fitness

It is common for people to gain excess body fat as they get older no matter how much they watch what they eat. The reason for this is they are losing the main component that drives their metabolism - which is their body's engine and the rate they burn fuel (calories). Unless they are actively working to keep that muscle with proper exercise they are losing it so even if they continue to eat the same amount of food as always their weight will slowly but surely creep upwards.

Our muscular system is made up of tissue that is highly metabolically active. This means that the more toned muscle tissue you have, the faster your metabolism is while both at rest and when you are active. It is easy to understand this when you discover that without enough muscle strengthening and maintaining activity we lose around one half pound of muscle tissue each year with the rate doubling after age 50.

As precious muscle tissue continues to be lost over the course of ones lifetime through disuse poor health and illness can be a consequence. When the human body is allowed to weaken all of it systems weaken in a downward spiral as well.

But, this muscle loss is not inevitable. With regular strength training exercise our muscular system can be kept in good shape right throughout our lifespan, and muscle lost can be rebuilt with some effort put into a proper program.

It seems misguided that many people believe that 'light' physical activity like walking or gardening is enough as they get older. But the fact is muscle mass cannot be maintained or increased with any low intensity activity. Any movement is not enough and an 'anything is better than nothing' belief is just that - an old fashioned belief that holds no water. You need to work your muscles directly through their ranges of movement under a load or against resistance to tone and strengthen your muscle tissue.

If you have become overweight and do not want the health risks and the negative aging effect on appearance and your dwindling strength and energy all you have to do is increase your fat burning mechanism - your muscles and let them burn off that unwanted fat naturally 24 hours a day.

Strength training is so effective you will get results with just 2-3 sessions each week if you do it correctly. And the best way to do it correctly is to have a few sessions with a fitness professional. Yes it will cost a few dollars but can you think of a better way to spend your money. A holiday, a new car, new clothes, eating out - don't think so.

There is not a single more beneficial activity you could do that can return you so much for so little output in time, effort and money. Think about it - getting back into shape again, losing some weight and regaining your vitality and youthfulness. Imagine recovering years (maybe decades) of lost strength and stamina and increasing the quality and maybe the quantity of your life - priceless.
