Thermal Imaging Cameras †The Best Economical Solution For Diagnostic Applications

By: Orson Dixon Home | Self-Improvement

The introduction of thermal imaging cameras has made the thermal imaging technology an effective analysis and problem solving tool for various applications. These types of cameras are ergonomic, light weight and intuitive. They also include high resolution thermal detectors that provide valuable temperature information in order to isolate problems. The function of thermal imaging cameras is similar to a digital photographic camera. The only difference is that the former can take a thermal picture. The infrared radiation measured by the detectors is then converted to the electrical signals. This, in turn, helps to produce a visual representation of the temperature, given out by the object.

The visual representation of thermal imaging cameras displays the cooler items in blue color and the hotter items in red color. With the help of a USB download, the visual representation can be formatted and analyzed on a computer. There are certain features that one needs to consider, while deciding on a particular thermal imaging camera. These include accuracy, resolution and temperature range of the camera.

You can measure the resolution of the camera by its pixels. The more pixels the thermal imaging camera has, the better the thermal picture will be. The accuracy of these cameras mostly ranges between 2-5%. Most of these thermal cameras have limited temperature range. Thereby, you need to make sure that your camera is able measure your application.

There are some high-end thermal imaging cameras that offer additional features. Some of them also provide photographic overlays of thermal picture. This feature helps to identify the detailed components as well as their proximity to each other. In addition, there are certain cameras that are specially built for HVAC industries and building inspection. These types of cameras come with features like dew point and insulation alarms, which help to locate areas of insufficient insulation or moisture. You can also get cameras that come with flashlights to illuminate the dark areas and provide voice annotation to document.

These thermal imaging cameras serve a number of purposes. It helps the Pest Control professionals to identify infestations as well as the plumbing professionals to locate blockages in the pipes. Thermal imaging cameras can even help the paranormal investigators and the law enforcement agencies to find hidden suspects.

Earlier, many people did not considered thermography as a part of their diagnostic solution or preventative maintenance due to its high price. However, with the introduction of low-cost offerings, these cameras became inevitable in reducing the overhead cost associated with the traditional methods.
