In the world that we live in today our lives are controlled by computers, television, iPods, and cell phones. What happened to spending quality family time together at home? There are many easy and inexpensive activities for you to do with your entire family at home: †Create Time Capsules: Family memories are one of the most cherished things that we possess. Time capsules can be fun to create. You can build a capsule for both the whole family and each individual member. Fill it with your family memories and then have each member write down a note to their future self. Each person can write down their hopes, dreams, or anything else. Then take a picture of everyone with their capsules. †Have an indoor scavenger hunt: Get several items and hide them throughout the house. Make a list of the items and then divide everyone into teams. Then have the family search for everything on the list. †Play Board Games: Good old-fashioned board games are great to bring families together. The traditional games, such as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, or Clue are always fun. Or there are many DVD games that are fun for the whole family. †Have a Pioneer Night: Kids today have no idea how the citizens in the early days lived. They did not even have electricity. Turn off the television, turn out the lights, and live like the pioneers did. Assemble in one room and light candles and lanterns. Tell stories, sing songs, or just share recollections of the past. You could even cook by the fireplace. †Have a Family Dinner Party: Spend the day cooking and baking together. Get a recipe and then cook a feast. Set an elaborate table with your best china and have everyone get all dressed up. †Look through Old Photographs: Get out the scrapbooks and reminisce together. The kids will not believe that you were actually that young or had hair. You will be surprised at how much fun this is. †Create your own Play: Write a skit, play, or talent show. Give each person their part and then present it. Get out costumes, such as scarves, old clothes, wigs, and jewelry. It would also be a good idea to tape it. †Build a Fort: You can use cardboard boxes, tables, and chairs. Toss blankets on them and create a fort. Inside, you can read books or just share memories together. †Have a Puppet Show: You can get out gloves, decorate them, and then put on a family puppet show. †Hide the Object: This works best if you have younger children. Pick something, such as ball, book, stuffed animal, or cup. Have your child hide their eyes and then place it somewhere in site. Then have them look for it. Family activities together can be considered like a vacation. You get to spend time together, having fun and enjoying each other’s company. You can make memories that last a lifetime.
