This Food Makes White Teeth

By: Frank Denber Home | Health-and-Fitness

Cosmetic dentistry has become quite popular recently. Teeth whitening, porcelain veneers and crowns, new dental implant procedures and invisible braces are just a few of the latest achievements of cosmetic dentistry industry.

A recent study of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) has shown that almost all people find that an attractive smile is an important asset and that yellow or stained teeth are among the first things people notice.

There are simple and cheap teeth whitening sets for home use available at the drug stores but they are not as affective as a power bleaching at the cosmetic dentist. However, dental cosmetic treatments can be very pricey. Tooth whitening for $600 and up, porcelain veneers for $800 and more per tooth.

Sometimes simple and cheap things can make a difference. The right food can make your teeth whiter and healthier while the wrong food makes yellow or stained teeth. Some foods can even remove stains and bacteria from teeth.

Strawberries and lemons can naturally whiten teeth. Drinks which are not good for your teeth are coffee and red wine for example or any drinks with much sugar and strong dark color. Tobacco can also stain your teeth.

Our saliva is a powerful cleaner, especially when combined with the fibers of foods like pears, apples, carrots, celery, cucumbers or cauliflower. Make use of sugar free gums as often as possible, ideally after a meal when you don't have the possibility to brush your teeth. Chewing stimulates salvia and cleans teeth.

Eating raw vegetables removes stains over time. To remove stain you can also brush your teeth with baking soda, but not more than twice a month to avoid injury of the enamel.

Eating the right food is no replacement for brushing your teeth frequently of course. You should also visit your dentist at least twice a year to get a professional cleaning that removes tobacco and food stains.
