Tiny Tots Train Themed Birthday Party

By: Sara Leadbetter Home | Home-and-Family

For whatever reason, children of all ages love trains. From Thomas the Tank to The Little Engine that Could, trains make an excellent theme for a birthday party at home for younger boys or girls or an exciting themed party away from home for older boys. Even better, there are plenty of great party train decorations on the market so that the train theme will carry through the entire party.

As with all themed birthday parties, the theme starts at the invitation. Purchase or make invitations that are shaped like a train and use the images of the train theme you're going with. Old-fashioned steam engines, in particular, make a fascinating setting and theme for little ones. It's one of those party ideas that doesn't need huge amounts spending to make it work. Just be smart with your purchases, including those for the goody bag at the end.

Transform your home or back garden into a train party getaway. Or if you live near a train museum or miniature railway, reserve the day and let the little engineers play. There is nothing quite as exciting as a Train Party! A great train birthday party idea is to have all the little ones dress up as a train engineer for a little interactive fun. Get the children to follow the lead engine around the garden in a specially laid track or ribbon or streamers. After that excitement, for a little bit of quiet time in the proceedings, get a Thomas the Tank Engine or other suitable train themed DVD for the entertainment of the little ones.

For the cake, there are plenty of cake shapes and cake themes that are ideal for train cakes and children's birthday parties. If you're short on time, buy what you need. If you're feeling creative, make a train shaped cake. Just Google 'train birthday cakes' for some fantastic examples and inspiration.

Most good party supply stores will have an abundance of train themed party supplies including hats, plates, cups, and napkins so there should be plenty to help you convey the train theme with little additional effort. It's amazing how, if you are able to create just the right atmosphere at the party, this can be enough for even very young children to remember the day for a long time afterwards.

Unfortunately, goody bags are becoming an important part of birthday parties in modern society. Although once a lovely surprise, they are now expected and looked forward to. And, unfortunately, some children and parents have high expectations. But, the train themed birthday party lends itself to plenty of train themed goody bag fillers. Ideas for fillers include coloring books, storybooks, puzzles, train whistles and stickers. Shop around, most of these items can be purchased very cheaply.

Of course, to make your child's train themed birthday party extra special, you might want to talk to local train companies or see if there is a train museum near by or even, if possible, you can actually book a train car or a room at the train depot in which to host the party. This will create a very special memory for your little one and everyone that attends your party. Depending on your location, some trains actually run circular trips that only last a couple of hours. If the children are old enough, this will be a thrilling party experience they'll never forget. It's a good idea to talk to the manager in charge of the train station to see what suggestions they may have for how to make your child's special day a little more exciting. Just remember that if they actually do get to ride in a train, after a party like this, next year will be a hard act to follow.
