The last thing that you need if you are a pool owner is problems with your automatic pool cleaner. Even if your unit is covered by a warranty, your pool still has to be cleaned while your pool cleaner is off being repaired. While todays automatic pool cleaner is a far more reliable product then the pool cleaners of years past, occasionally problems do arise. If your automatic pool cleaner is a mechanical model you should send it in for repairs. However; if you are an owner of one of the very popular suction side or pressure side models you most likely can solve the problem yourself. The First Places to Look By far the most common source of problems for either of these two types of automatic pool cleaner is lack of water flow, either to or from the machine. The quickest and easiest places to scout out for a problem is in the pools filter or the water pump strainer basket. If either are clogged then that most likely is the source of your problem. The Next Place to Look If that doesn't do the trick then the next obvious place to check for an obstruction is in the hose itself. Focus your attention first on any couplings that you may have in the hose. If no leaves or debris is caught up in the couplings then go through the hose and see if it is obstructed. After you have given the hose an â€all clear†then your next place to check is the unit itself. Examine it for any cracks or holes and see if there is anything such as hair or leaves that are clogging it up. Adjust the Water Ports Another common problem that may crop up is your unit not covering the entire pools bottom surface. A common source for this type of problem is the automatic pool cleaner not having enough hose to work with. If this is not the case for you then then next source to check is the water inflow and outflow ports on the sides of your pool. Quite often they can create a current in your pool that your cleaner will follow. Simply readjust the flow in your ports and see if that does the trick.
