Anemia is a blood disorder. Anaemia is the most common blood disorder in the US It affects about 3.5 million Americans. Women and people with chronic illnesses are at increased risk of anaemia. Anemia is a condition where there is a lower than normal red blood cells in the blood, usually measured by a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the oxygen carrying red blood cells. It gives these blood cells their red color. Treatment: 1.Ash gourd can prevent the risk of anemia by checking the amount of blood lost from the lungs, nose and if there are piles. Ash gourd is also effective in controlling hematuria, which is a condition in which there are blood cells in the urine. 2.The appropriate treatment of anemia due to blood loss is correction of the underlying condition and oral administration of ferrous sulfate until the anemia is corrected and for several months afterward to ensure that body stores are replete with iron. Relatively few indications exist for the use of parenteral iron therapy, and blood transfusions should be reserved for the treatment of shock or hypoxia. 3.Hydroxyurea is a new treatment for sickle cell anemia that reduces the frequency of pain epidsodes, acute chest syndrome and the need for blood transfusions in adults. Studies are currently underway to determine the proper dosage of hydroxyeurea for children. Researchers also are investigating similar drugs for children to reduce the number of complications and improve survival, as well as new approaches to gene therapy. 4.Iron is the great allopathic remedy for anemia from almost any cause. It is also a great homoeopathic remedy, but it will not cure every case of anemia; careful individualization is necessary. When the patient has an appearance of full bloodedness or plethora, which is followed by paleness or earthiness of the face and puffiness of the extremities, then Ferrum will benefit. It is not the remedy for the anemia resulting from loss of fluids; that is Cinchona, or perhaps Natrum muriaticum. 5.Many physicians do not take anemia seriously. Physician of the elderly often tell them that anemia is a normal in the elderly and the physicians are failing to treat it. It is shocking to hear of patients complain of the symptoms of anemia, and then here that there physicians say not to worry about their low red blood count. While it is true that anemia is epidemic in the elderly it is not an excuse to leave it untreated. 6.For children or adults with mild iron deficiency anemia, doctors may recommend a daily multivitamin containing iron. But typically, doctors recommend iron tablets â€" such as prescription ferrous sulfate tablets or an over-the-counter supplement. These oral iron supplements are usually best absorbed in an empty stomach. However, because iron can irritate your stomach, you may need to take the supplements with food. 7.Folic acid deficiency anemia is treated with folic acid supplements. 8.Vitamin C may aid in the body's ability to absorb iron.
